Hassanah Delia, 24, whom federal prosecutors described as a crack dealer, was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in New Haven. Upon her release from prison, she'll be on probation for five years.

According to information filed in federal court, the two girls encountered Jarell Sanderson and Delia after running away from a shelter for girls in Hartford. The girls had been expelled from foster care for fighting.

The girls told federal prosecutors that a man they identified only as Ron directed them to an apartment building on Huntington Street where they found Sanderson and Delia, who the girls said began pressing them to work as prostitutes.

Before any decision was made, one of the girls was sexually assaulted by an unidentified male acquaintance of Sanderson and Delia in the bathroom of one of the apartments in the Huntington Street building.

One of the girls agreed to give prostitution a try after Delia told her she would be working as an escort. According to a prosecution memo filed in the case, Delia explained that working as an escort was a step up from prostitution. She said prostitutes work for drugs and escorts work for money.

The second 14-year-old resisted but ultimately was coerced into performing sex acts, according to documents on file in court.
O
ver the next five days, documents on file in federal court show, the girls were forced to work at the Days Inn on Brainard Road in Hartford and at the Madison Motor Inn in East Hartford.

Among other things, Sanderson was accused of posting advertisements for prostitution on the internet and Delia was accused of taking calls from customers. There were an unspecified number of prostitutes working for the operation, in addition to the two minor girls, according to prosecution documents filed in court.

The victims recounted their six days as prostitutes to law enforcement authorities. One victim was forced to drink so much alcohol that she passed out. Both heard Sanderson and Delia make death threats.

According to prosecution documents, Delia once punched her mother in the face after her mother complained about what one of the girls were being forced to do. Sanderson once became enraged when a customer rated one of the girls unfavorably in an online review.

Delia pleaded guilty Dec. 7, 2010 to two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion.
Sanderson, 31, of New Britain, was sentenced June 7 to 26 years in prison for two counts of sex trafficking of children and one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking.
